16 Years

Sixteen years ago, I clicked “Publish” for the very first time on this blog.

I didn’t have any big plans; I just had a digital blank page, a quiet need to translate what I was feeling into words, and a handful of poems I was brave enough to set free into the world. Sixteen years later, this little corner of WordPress has become the steady witness to my life.

When I first started writing here, I used line breaks and stanzas to figure out who I was. Poetry became the lens through which I processed everything: the sharp edges of heartbreak, the quiet magic of ordinary Saturday mornings, the grief of letting things go, and the gentle beauty of starting over. Over time, the space evolved. I moved from guarded, highly structured verses posted late at night to open-hearted, inspiring thoughts, learning to share not just the art, but the unpolished human behind it.

What I never expected when I began was the incredible community that would gather here. Along the way, this blog gave me some of the most profound, beautiful friendships of my life. People across oceans and time zones became confidants, creative soulmates, and constant sources of warmth. We met in the comment sections, exchanged long emails, shared our own stanzas, and held space for each other through life’s biggest moments. Sharing vulnerability online can feel scary, but the friends who walked through the door this blog opened made every single risk worth taking.

There is something deeply beautiful about keeping a personal blog for nearly two decades. It teaches you that slow creation still matters. It reminds you that writing isn’t about chasing viral metrics; it’s about genuine connection. It’s about that one message from a friend saying, “I felt this exact same way, but I didn’t have the words for it until now.”

If you’ve been here since the early days, thank you for growing with me. If you’re one of the dear friends I’ve met through these pages, thank you for sticking by my side. And if you just stumbled upon this space, welcome; I’m so glad you found your way here. Thank you for reading my poetry, for holding space for my heart, and for proving that sharing vulnerable things on the internet can lead to lifelong connection.

Here’s to the next chapter, the next stanza, and the next blank page.

All my love,
Jennifer

  1. Awesome Jennifer! Happy 16 years and a toast to many more years to come. Keep doing what you do and I really appreciate you sharing not only your poetry, but giving us all moments with you as well. Much love and peace my friend, from one poet to another.

  2. Jennifer, it’s us that should thank you for all the positivity and gentle care you have put in to the friendships you made here. your words, your art – it is in itself a manifestation of the safe creative space people yearn for. I am, and I know I can speak for others, grateful for your presence here. To more decades of your friendship to come on WP.
    Mike

  3. Ahhh Jenn, what a beautiful milestone. Sixteen years of showing up to the blank page, giving words to the things that are often hardest to name, and allowing others to find pieces of themselves in what you’ve shared. That is something truly special.

I’m grateful to be one of the people whose path crossed yours through this beautiful journey. Your words have always carried such heart, honesty, and tenderness, and it has been a gift to witness the person behind them, too.

Congratulations on sixteen wonderful years, my friend. Here’s to all the blank pages still waiting for you, the stories yet to unfold, and the friendships and connections your words will continue to inspire. May the next chapter be every bit as beautiful as the ones that brought you here. 🤍

    • Your words mean more to me than I can probably put into words. Sixteen years of writing have taught me that the blank page is never really blank; it holds all the things we carry, the things we’re still trying to understand, and sometimes the pieces of ourselves we didn’t even know needed a voice.

But what has made this journey truly meaningful has never been the number of years. It’s been the people I’ve met along the way. The ones who read between the lines, who recognize something of themselves in the words, and who somehow become part of the story simply by being there. You are one of those people for me, and I’m deeply grateful that our paths crossed.

Thank you for seeing not only the words, but the person behind them. Thank you for being part of this chapter and for reminding me why I keep returning to the page. Sixteen years later, I’m still humbled by where the words can take me, and even more grateful for the people they bring into my life.

Here’s to the pages still unwritten, the stories still becoming, and the beautiful souls who make the journey worth writing about. ❤️

  4. You are indeed my best friend. One that I did not expect to find when I came here, and that I did. If I never would’ve started my blog, then I never would’ve found you in this world.

I can’t lie, I’ve been debating whether I should just leave and quit writing. I’m letting my ego get the best of me lately. But you remind me that I haven’t been grateful for what this place has done for me. I appreciate this! And I appreciate you with all my life! Thank you!!!! Letssss gooooo!

    • I am so grateful for you! You really don’t give yourself enough grace where it’s needed. This community has been good to you, and FOR you, but at the end of the day, you have to do what YOU want. I mean, you were dying to come back when you took a break, so that tells you something! Keep your head up, keep working on yourself, and don’t let others decide ANYTHING for you.

  5. ❤️It’s been the same for me and you’re now forever part of my journey. I’m so happy we both ended up on the same path. Love you… xoxo

      • I’m still healing, I will be for a long while. Therapy has helped but it’s also opened up memories that were locked behind trauma doors and I’m finally ready to start exploring them maturely. Thank you so much and i was wondering how you’ve been too and it makes me happy to see you’re shining like a star.

      • I’m glad to know you’re healing. I know that isn’t easy to do. Healing can be a lifetime. I hope it brings you a version of peace you didn’t even know you were missing. Always here if you need anyone.

  6. Admittedly, blogging is new to me as a lived experience. However, very few things have changed my life more profoundly than sharing writing online. I’m in awe of your talent. Your guidance, influence, sharing, and gentleness are such gifts. And you share them with grace and unending generosity.

Your approach to writing and poetry, specifically, is gorgeous. The metaphors do not cease. The language of love continues to acquire vocabulary because of you. Some of the best advice i’ve ever received came from you: “never stop writing.”

The palest ink is better than the best memory.” – Chinese proverb

So, forgive this bold suggestion: never stop writing, Jenn. Never.

    • Wow, thank you! What a beautiful thing to have someone place words like these in your hands.

There are days when writing feels like a door I’m not sure I dare to open. And then someone comes along and reminds me that perhaps the words were never mine to keep; they were meant to travel. To find another heart. To become something else once they leave me.

You have just reminded me of that.

And what a gift it is to have “never stop writing” returned to me like this, as a blessing and as encouragement.

I will try. I promise (and you know how I feel about them)

I feel like I am the fortunate one. Because the truth is, your words have given something to me too: the reminder that tenderness is its own kind of language, and that sometimes being witnessed is an act of love.

Thank you for witnessing me so beautifully.

      I’ll keep writing.

And you, please keep reminding me why.
