Remembering

*Picture is my own*

the path remembers us
every stone still holds
the quiet weight
of your hand finding mine
simply to say
I’m here
and I love you

beneath these old trees
where even time hangs gently
from the branches
your fingers folded into mine
like they had always known
the shape of my loneliness

since then
every empty bench looks as though
it has been saving a place
for the warmth we left behind
I could walk this road
a thousand times alone
yet my palm would keep searching
for the memory of your touch

because some hands
never really let go
they become
the way you carry love
long after the path disappears

  1. There are some paths that can never be walked alone because some loves are ingrained in our souls. They are indelible they become part of us. Perhaps, more than a part. They become us.
I consider myself one of the most fortunate of humans to have found his true love.
But you have transported me with your words, accompanied by your incredible image, to feel like I am walking with you. Hand in yours. Sharing silence. Sharing dreams. Feeling safe.
I can feel the heat. I can hear the strangers playing nearby…harmlessly ignorant to the incredible love being shared in your imagery.
Your writing paints vivid pictures. I can see myself there. And for an author to share memories so relatable that they seem like my own, is an experience I have never felt prior. Never have I ever…

    • So very lovely to see you again!

To know you walked beside me through those memories, hand in hand, sharing the silence between the words, is a gift beyond anything I imagined when I wrote them. If my story felt, for a moment, like your own, then perhaps that is what memories are meant to do: remind us that love speaks a language older than any one life.

To have found the soul who became part of you, who became you, is one of life’s rarest blessings. Hold on to that with everything you have, never let that go.

Thank you for trusting me with your heart in return for mine. Comments like yours remind me why I write in the first place.

  4. So beautiful!!! And that photo of yours, just wow, it’s so awesome! I really love black and white photos! The walkway\path texture in your photograph is literally enhanced due to the black and white capture! So very cool! 🙂

  5. I used to think long ago, I cannot have lovers, for when they leave, I would still carry them, on me like a stain, within me, like something that yearns to see the light of day. This poem reminded me of that feeling I once held on to, fanatically. Thank you for this beautiful poem~
