Quick question

Hey everyone! Just a quick question: Has anyone ever gone to a WP writers meetup? I’ve been thinking how cool it would be if a group of us got together to hang out for a day or so! I’m sure it could be challenging for most, but I think the idea is so awesome! Okay, another side question: Have any of you ever been to a writers’/poetry retreat of any kind?

Let me know in the comments! I hope you all are having a wonderful day!

Much love,

Jenn ❤️

  1. My answer is no, I’ve never been to any type of writing retreat, ‘though I know I’d enjoy it. I’d really like to learn about writing poetry but I know I don’t have enough skills to attend a workshop yet (work in progress). Great idea! pp

  2. Not a writer’s meetup, but to several local writer’s workshops (non-specific to WP, more for developing writing skills). No retreats, but I have considered renting one of the 1-room cabins nearby for a weekend and doing my own “retreat”.

You might have success setting up something locally or virtually. I know, before it demise (RIP), NaNoWriMo did virtual write-ins “cafes” as well as in-person meetups. Something like that usually can scale to meet the needs if it changes. I’ve an advocate of using Google Meet (video, most folks have a Google account) or Discord (audio/chatroom only) for something like that. Zoom but, like Discord, not everyone wants yet another account.

My two cents worth a quarter of their value.

  3. I’ve never been to a writers’ meetup, but I think it would be an amazing experience. I have spent time in a writing session with my friend, who writes music, and I got to witness some real magic happen 😁

  4. Before the pandemic, I went to a couple of poetry retreats and they were okay. I prefer the shorter duration workshops to multi-day retreats and the poetry group I’m part of, Living Poetry, still holds germination and feedback workshops on a regular basis over Zoom. It’s not quite the same as breathing the same air as the other participants but overall I feel like they’re still worth it.

I’ve never met any of the authors I’ve read on WordPress in real-life, except for those I already knew before WP. As a long-time resident of the internet, I’ve met a lots of people in real-life after I got to know them online and it’s just weird at first but things settle quickly.

    • Thank you for this answer! I was thinking the zoom things as well, and eventually an in person meet up. I do like the online thing, that way people outside the US can still participate! Thanks again!

  5. Jenn, this sounds like an awesome idea!! Id be down to attend a meet-up like that!

A poetry retreat sounds wonderful ✨️ I will do some research 😊
