The shape of quiet

I close my eyes and drown out
the sound of goodbye
pretending silence
is kinder than the truth
I tell myself this ache
will soften with time
that absence
is just another word for rest
but the quiet keeps your shape
lingers where your laughter used to be
and every unspoken thing still hums
a low tide pulling at my ribs
asking me to remember
what I’m trying to release

  1. Ahhh, Jennifer!! I so love the way you have with words, winding and weaving them into such a masterful work of art!!! One that reaches out and touches my heart. Pulling back the curtain on the struggle the heart and soul has with the mind that wants to “forget and move on”, not wanting to relive or remember the memories of the past that the heart and soul wants to keep alive. Bellissimo, Jennifer, Bellissimo!!!
