the sun slips between
the ribs of the pier
a small burning secret
the ocean agrees to keep
wood remembers every tide
that touched it
every weight it held
without complaint
the light lingers
just long enough to say goodbye
as the water swallows
the last light
pretending it doesn’t hurt
I hope there is one such tide that comes that will never recede, finding safe harbor and itself providing a steadying force for the pier. lovely words and lovely sunset capture Jennifer! Mike

Wow, Jennifer!!! I so loved this!!! Magical imagery and visualizations coupled with creating a lifelike relationship between the sun and the pier/wood!!! Bellissimo, Jennifer, Bellissimo!!! Like a couple of other commenters I really loved the opening two lines and the ending lines to they were great bookends to the poem!Chuck😁✨💖💕🌹
Thank you so much. I hope TX is treating you well!
Ha! Yes, so far so good for the New Year! Things are well with you??? 😁💖💕🌹
Yes, things are well here!
I really enjoyed this. “The ribs of the pier” makes it a load bearing body. Beautiful depiction of being the one that holds, absorbs, endures – and then lets go without asking for witness. Bravo.
I’m really enjoying your deep thoughts and comments 🙂 thank you so much, it means a lot to me
