regret is a dim
unsteady blue
the kind that pools
beneath streetlights
after rain has already
forgotten its purpose
it lingers on fingertips
a stain you notice only
when reaching for something
that used to fit your hand
not quite night
not quite dawn
just that trembling
shade between a color
that never learned
how to let go
This is so freaking deep bestie! 👏🏻 I have lots of regrets myself. Over the years, I’ve been trying my best to reframe them instead of dwell on them. But that’s been way easier said than done. And as you already know, I’ve failed at doing that quite a bit! I’m getting there though! 💪🏻🙂❤️
Aww, thank you! Yeah those regrets can be heavy at times. I know people say, to live your life with no regrets, but that is at times hard to do. We’ve all failed at times, you’re not alone there! You are getting there though, be proud of that! 🙂❤️
In part because that this is where I am at tonight, but great job describing the emotion.
You’re not alone 🩷 big hugs
Big hugs back 💕
Love the imagery and metaphors here. I wonder if regret is about not letting go. I mean, if you let go, forget, move on etc, you could still feel the effects of a past hurt, leading you to regret the cause and I guess in the process open up wounds again. Its a very deep word, ‘regret’. I want to explore it further.
That’s such an insightful way to look at it. Regret really does sit in that space between holding on and trying to move forward. Even when we’ve “let go” in the practical sense, our emotions don’t always follow the same timeline, and old hurts can echo back. Maybe regret is partly the mind’s way of revisiting something we haven’t fully understood yet. It is a deep word — layered, messy, and surprisingly alive.
Well said. I think regret is a good thing. It s a permanent reminder that comes with making mistakes or being hurt.
Love that middle stanza. Great work!
Thank you so much! I hope you’re well!
Wow happy I’m back to blogging. I forgot how deep you could go with your poetry. This is beautiful.
YES! Happy to see you again! Thank you so much ❤️
